In terms of the Higher Education Act (Act 101 of 1997), the University of Pretoria is classified as a public higher education institution.  The University of Pretoria is accredited by the Council on Higher Education (CHE) as a multi-purpose public training provider in the higher education and training band.

The University of Pretoria offers a comprehensive portfolio of short coursescertificate programmes and through Continuing Education at University of Pretoria Trust.Continuing Education at University of Pretoria Trust (CE at UP), with trust no.   IT 133196/07, has as its mandate the coordination, management, administration and presentation of all continuing education activities on behalf of the University of Pretoria and its structures.  The Trust takes responsibility for all continuing education activities of the University of Pretoria and the certification thereof.

What certificate would I receive and of what value would it be?

The value of any qualification is inextricable from the name of the institution that offers the qualification. In this regard we are proud of the good reputation, both nationally and internationally, of the University of Pretoria.

The University has been offering high-quality education in project management for 30 years or more.

A number of different lecturers with extensive industrial experience teach on the PPM.

The PPM benefits from the Masters Programme in Project Management (MPM) that is offered largely by the same lecturers. The MPM is the only program of its kind on the African Continent that is accredited by the Project Management Institute, USA.

What is the PMP® and how does it relate to this programme?

The PMP® (Project Management Professional) is a certification by the American Project Management Institute (PMI®).

The Department of the University responsible for the content of the Programme in Project Management (PPM) Certificate is registered by the PMI® (USA) as a provider of project management education. The PMI® recognizes both the University of Pretoria and the project management programmes offered such as the Programme in Project Management (PPM) and the Masters’ in Project Management (MPM) offered to engineers and scientists.

The PPM helps if you wish to register with the American PMI® as a “PMP®”:

•The PPM provides solid, general background for the PMP examination.

•During the PPM you will learn about the American PMBOK® Guide and should obtain a working knowledge of its contents.

•To register as a PMP and to remain registered, you have to earn a certain number of PDUs (Professional Development Units) and the PPM course could provide these.

Delegates who successfully complete the PPM and comply with the related assessment criteria are awarded by the University of Pretoria (at a certificate ceremony) certificates of successful completion. In addition to the certificate, the PPM is recognized by the following:

PMI (Project Management Institute) – USA

ECSA (Engineering Council of SA)

SACPCMP (South African Council for the Project and Construction. Management Professions)

PMSA (Project Management South Africa)
