Dr Corro Van Waveren

Corro van Waveren is a Senior Lecturer in the Graduate School of Technology Management at the University of Pretoria. He holds the degrees B.Eng. (Mechanical), M.Eng. (Mechanical) and M.Eng. (Engineering Management), all from the University of Pretoria.

He has been involved in project management training (short courses and certificate courses in project management) since 2004.

He started his career as a full time engineer at the company, the Laboratory for Advanced Engineering (Pty) Ltd where he was involved with projects mainly in the automotive and defence industries.

He later joined the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Pretoria and during the same time he was a consultant, project manager, assistant manager and project portfolio manager of the Structural Mechanics and Dynamics Group of the Laboratory for Advanced Engineering (Pty) Ltd leading multiple projects with a common resource base. During this time he gained experience in the field of structural testing, fluid power as well as the design, development and manufacturing of servo-hydraulic test equipment including control and application software.

He joined the Department of Engineering and Technology Management in January 2002 where he mainly teaches on the Masters in Project Management (MPM) and the Management of Technology (MOT) Honours programmes. His research interest includes Project Management and Quality Management with a sub focus on knowledge transfer within and across projects.

He presents lectures and courses in the field of Project Management and other related fields.  Companies for whom courses and workshops have been offered include: Eskom, Lonmin, SAPS, IEC, Jhb Water, Harmony Gold, Phalaborwa Mining Company, CSIR, Service Seta, SA Navy, SANDF, Ngangala Local Municipality, Dept of Public Works (Limpopo), Agricultural Research Council, Mapulaneng Districts Municipality, Council for Geoscience, Highveld Steel, GTZ, SABS, Dept of Science & Technology, Thulamela Districts Municipality and others.

He is a regular guest lecturer and visiting scholar in Project Management at the Tilburg University in the Netherlands.

He contributes regularly to International Conferences and Journals in the field of Project and Engineering Management.

He is registered as a Professional Engineer and is a member of the South African Institute of Mechanical Engineers.

  1. PMI (Project Management Institute) – USA and Globally
  2. ECSA (Engineering Council of SA)
  3. SACPCMP (South African Council for the Project and Construction Management Professions)
  4. SACNASP (South African Council for Natural Scientific Professionals)
  5. PMSA (Project Management South Africa)

On successful completion of the PPM, suitable candidates may be eligible to apply for the professional designation of Project Manager (PM) conferred by Project Management South Africa (PMSA). PMSA is the SAQA recognized professional body representing the interests of project managers across sectors.
