Dr Corro Van Waveren

Dr Corro van Waveren is a Senior Lecturer in the Graduate School of Technology Management (GSTM) at the University of Pretoria. He holds the degrees: B.Eng. (Mechanical), M.Eng. (Mechanical), and M.Eng. (Engineering Management) cum laude, and a PhD in Engineering Management.

He has been registered as a Professional Engineer with ECSA since 1995 and is a member of the South African Institute of Mechanical Engineers.

He began his career as an engineer at the Laboratory for Advanced Engineering (Pty) Ltd, where he was involved in projects, primarily in the automotive, mining, and defence industries. Quality management is one of his passions, and in this capacity, he implemented the ISO 9001 standard in a test laboratory that specialised in the research and development of servo-hydraulic test systems as well as service load simulation software and its applications.

He later joined the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Pretoria. During the same time, he served as a consultant, project manager, and project portfolio manager for the Structural Mechanics and Dynamics Group of the Laboratory for Advanced Engineering (Pty) Ltd., where he led multiple projects with a common resource base.

Since joining the GSTM in 2002, he has been teaching extensively on the Masters in Project Management (MPM) at the University of Pretoria and currently acts as program coordinator for the three masters programmes of the GSTM.

Since 2013, he has been a regular guest lecturer and visiting scholar in Project Management in the Department of Organization Studies at Tilburg University in the Netherlands, and regularly teaches project management in several African countries.

Currently, he supervises project management-related research projects at master's and PhD levels, and his publications on knowledge transfer within and across projects have received international recognition. He contributes regularly to international conferences and journals in the field of Project and Engineering Management. His publications on project management and related fields can be viewed at the Google Scholar web page.

In addition, he regularly presents workshops and training courses in the field of Project Management and related fields. Companies for whom he presented in-house courses and workshops include Eskom, Lonmin, SAPS, IEC, Johannesburg Water, Harmony Gold, Phalaborwa Mining Company, CSIR, Services Seta, SA Navy, SANDF, Ngangala Local Municipality, Dept of Public Works (Limpopo), Agricultural Research Council, Mapulaneng Districts Municipality, Council for Geoscience, Highveld Steel, GTZ, SABS, Dept of Science & Technology, Thulamela Districts Municipality, Kamoa Centre of Excellence CD, Namport NA, and others.

  2. ECSA (Engineering Council of SA)
  3. SACPCMP (South African Council for the Project and Construction Management Professions)
  4. SACNASP (South African Council for Natural Scientific Professionals)
  5. PMSA (Project Management South Africa)

On successful completion of the PPM, suitable candidates may be eligible to apply for the professional designation of Project Manager (PM) conferred by Project Management South Africa (PMSA). PMSA is the SAQA recognized professional body representing the interests of project managers across sectors.
