Dr Dolf Steyn

Dr Dolf Steyn, is fifty-nine years of age, married, father to three children and grandpa to one.

He is currently self-employed as freelance Project manager, Higher Education consultant, and facilitator. His last full-time position was that of Managing Director for Pearson Institute of Higher Education (commonly referred to as a private University). Having led a national multi campus company which was internationally owned by a London listed company, he is well salted and equipped to deal with the range, complexity, and nature of the associated challenges. He has rich experience in dealing with all components of managing, leading, technology adoption and working in Higher education and the international corporate environment.

During his time as a Lead consultant at Deloitte consulting, he started a project management office for a team who among others did SABA installations, LMS rollouts and custom software solutions.

His career includes a time as Director of Teaching and Learning with Technology at the Tshwane University of technology.

He worked in the education, public, private, and corporate sectors. As such he is experienced in working in teams, delegations, and committees as well as in the running of projects as an individual. Topics covered with national and international endeavours include technology adoption and management, HRD strategy design and application of appropriate technology, knowledge mining andmanagement, training with technology as well as organisational change and multiple management and business aspects.

Dolf has managed many projects and initiatives inclusive of some nine figure and multiple eight-figure budgets.

He has taught at graduate and post graduate level and still facilitates learning for Enterprises at UP, Stadio and DaVinci Institute where he still supervises master’s and Doctoral students.

He has published nationally and internationally and is a frequent contributor to workshops, training sessions and conferences. He served on examination boards, investigation/advisory commissions, and industry work teams where he worked with people from a wide spectrum of backgrounds and with people within many contexts. The spectrum in which he has worked ranges from deep rural African students to first world executives. He receives equal appreciation from within all these contexts.

Formal studies resulted in a number of minor qualifications besides from which he has a DPhil (Information Science), MEd (Cum Laude), HDE and an FDE.

The PPM is recognized by the following:

  1. PMI (Project Management Institute) – USA and Globally
  2. ECSA (Engineering Council of SA)
  3. SACPCMP (South African Council for the Project and Construction Management Professions)
  4. SACNASP (South African Council for Natural Scientific Professionals)
  5. PMSA (Project Management South Africa)

On successful completion of the PPM, suitable candidates may be eligible to apply for the professional designation of Project Manager (PM) conferred by Project Management South Africa (PMSA). PMSA is the SAQA recognized professional body representing the interests of project managers across sectors.
