Dr Greyling Viljoen is a registered Clinical Psychologist with the HPCSA (Health Professions Council of South Africa). He has postgraduate degrees in Psychology and Theology and a PhD in Psychotherapy. His area of specialisation is group behaviour and group dynamics. Greyling has been in full time clinical and sport psychology private practice since 2004.

Prior to private practice he was the managing director of Team & Leadership Development Centre (Pty) Ltd, a business that he co-founded with Prof Drikus Kriek. The focus of TLDC is to change behaviour to support business process change. In 2003 Greyling and Prof Kriek published the book: “Teambuilding: A Manual for Leading Teams”. During the transitional period to a democratic South Africa, Greyling was a chief facilitator of the Psychological Integration Programme; a project to support the integration of the statutory and non-statutory defence and armed forces.

He has been lecturing on a part time basis at different universities since 1999. He currently lectures People Management on a project management course (PPM presented by Enterprises University of Pretoria). During 2012 he lectured to PhD students from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology. He was also the on-ground programme coordinator for the students for two field experiences to South Africa. He is a Visiting Fellow at the University of the West of England (UWE Bristol).

For the past five years he has acted as a consultant for the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation-funded Malaria Elimination Initiative (MEI southern Africa) where he has been actively involved in, and, at times leading implementation projects in Eswatini, Zimbabwe and Namibia. He is currently the Lead Presenter of the Professional Practice in Change Leadership (PPCL) programme, offered by the University of the West of England (UWE) in collaboration with the Women’s University of Africa (WUA), which forms part of a project ‘Optimising Stakeholder Operating Models for HIV Prevention in Zimbabwe’ (OPTIMISE).

Part of Greyling’s practice includes performance psychology and he has worked with numerous Olympic athletes and Southern African sports teams. He is a former recipient of the UP sportsman of the year and South African Sport Merit awards.

Greyling is married to Katherine Malan, a professor in computer scientist who lecturers in Decision Sciences at UNISA and they have two daughters.

The PPM is recognized by the following:

  2. ECSA (Engineering Council of SA)
  3. SACPCMP (South African Council for the Project and Construction Management Professions)
  4. SACNASP (South African Council for Natural Scientific Professionals)
  5. PMSA (Project Management South Africa)

On successful completion of the PPM, suitable candidates may be eligible to apply for the professional designation of Project Manager (PM) conferred by Project Management South Africa (PMSA). PMSA is the SAQA recognized professional body representing the interests of project managers across sectors.
