The Annual Graduate School Of Technology Management Certificate Ceremony Acknowledges Top Achievers

The Annual GSTM Certificate Ceremony was held on 15 March 2012 at the CSIR in Pretoria, South Africa.  Delegates who attended the Programme in Project Management, Advanced Programme in Project Management, Programme in Engineering Management, Programme in Maintenance and Asset Management, Programme in Maintenance Management as well as Programme in Logistics received their certificates of completion at the ceremony. 

The ceremony, which served as an acknowledgement of the delegates’ achievement of completing the respective courses, welcomed Mr Beeuwen Gerryts (Acting Chief Director: Technology Localisation and Advanced Manufacturing at the Department of Science and Technology) as the guest speaker, as well as Professor Tinus Pretorius, Chair of Graduate School of Technology Management and Professor Roelf Sandenbergh, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Built Environment and Information Technology.

The Programme in Project Management was commended by delegates as an industry relevant course that provided delegates the opportunity to apply knowledge gained from the course in their respective professional fields. 

According to Keatlaretse Mahlake, “The course gave me the push I needed to study again.  I would definitely recommend the course to others.”  Delegates from the Thulamela Municipality in Limpopo were impressed by how the course seemed ‘readymade’ for them and that it catered for such a variety of people.  The Programme in Project Management enabled delegates to improve performance at work, to an extent that some have been promoted since completing the course.  Paula Botha, an Eskom employee, was so impressed with the Programme in Project Management that she has enrolled for the Advanced Programme in Project Management.

These sentiments were shared by delegates from the Programme in Engineering Management as well as the Programme in Asset and Maintenance Management.  Mazwi Buthelezi described the Programme in Engineering Management as a course that enabled him “to take concepts learnt in the course and implement them in the working environment”.

Beeuwen Gerryts’s speech concentrated on skills and technologies which can be used as leveraging mechanisms necessary for staying industry relevant as well as the development of the country.  He commended delegates on the mindset of continuous learning adopted in order to complete the respective courses as “each of us is the custodian of our own career”.
